Steve Taylor of Superjoint Discusses Touring, New Music, and Sticking to Superjoint’s Roots

Superjoint is proof that you put talented musicians together, and great things happen. What started as a jam band with friends turned into one of the many great bands in metal.

Superjoint formed when vocalist Phil Anselmo wanted to jam with some of his friends in-between Pantera and some of his other bands. At first, the band didn’t go anywhere and was just a fun side project. But after Pantera’s demise, Phil started to pursue Superjoint.

The band was originally called Superjoint Ritual. Due to legal reasons, they had to cut back on their name.

Superjoint’s sound is dark, heavy, and mean. Their newest album, Caught Up in the Gears of Application, proves Superjoint isn’t slowing down. Superjoint’s signature sound uses a strong New Orleans sludge-theme, combines it with Anselmo’s signature vocals, and takes heaviness to a whole new level.

Seeing Superjoint live was crazy. All of their songs sounded perfect live. It doesn’t matter how many years Phil does this, his voice always sounds perfect and he commands amazing stage presence.

From here, Superjoint can only get stronger. I can’t wait to see how far Superjoint goes!

I was able to speak to bassist Steve Taylor while Superjoint was at State Theatre in St. Petersburg, Florida. In the interview, we discuss the tour, what he can say about new music, and why Superjoint always sticks to their roots.

My name is Stephanie Jensen. I started my career as a music journalist five years ago. I had the idea for Infernal TV when I realized I desired more creative direction. I enjoyed working with video, so I decided to create a video-based website for metal bands.
