Solstice Plays with Rob Barrett in Tampa, Florida

Solstice is a legendary band in both the death metal and thrash metal genres. This debut self-titled album revolutionized the extreme metal genre.

And I had the luxury of watching songs off the self-titled being performed featuring Rob Barrett on guitar. The set was extremely intense but it was amazing watching those songs being performed. All of the songs were performed perfectly.

Rob Barrett and Alex Marquez formed Solstice along with Dennis Munoz. After the album’s release, Rob and Alex joined Malevolent Creation and later Rob joined Cannibal Corpse.

As a Solstice fan, watching those songs being performed is amazing. That album has everything; it’s heavy, technical, and fast. The drumming from Alex Marquez is legendary for extreme metal, and of course there’s a myriad of guitar solos from one of my favorite guitarists James Murphy.

Solstice is a band that has and will keep influencing metal fans. They have the harshness of extreme metal with the velocity of thrash and even some unique solos that helped lead to the creation of the death metal genre.

With that being said, Solstice has a new album in the works. But in the meantime, check out the footage I got of Solstice. They played Metal for the Military on September 2 at Crowbar in Tampa, Florida.
