Steffen Kummerer of Obscura Discusses Tour and New Music | Infernal TV Episode 12

The one band that has taken the technical and progressive death metal scene by storm is Obscura. But there’s a defining factor about this band that separates them from other modern death metal bands. They’re talented players but they’re not competing to be the best. Not only that, but they blend the perfect balance between technical, melodic, and catchy.

When you listen to any Obscura album, you just feel something more. You know more went into the songwriting than intricate riffs. There’s passion in each song. Every album, from Cosmogenesis to Diluvium, has this aspect.

Speaking of Diluvium, this is the best album they have done since Omnivium (and I really love that album). Diluvium has all of the tasty brutal parts meshed in with the technical and spastic Obscura stylings. You can listen to that album as a whole and select individual songs for listening.

I remember discovering Obscura around the time when Omnivium was released. A few months later, they played at the Brass Mug in Tampa. I think this was in 2011. Literally, no one was at the show. Now in 2018, I see Obscura headline The Haven in Orlando. The place was sold out! Shows how much a band can grow and how much impact ticket sales and concert attendance makes for a band. I sure hope it doesn’t take Obscura seven years to come back!

I had the pleasure of interviewing Obscura guitarist and vocalist Steffen Kummerer. In the interview we discuss their North America tour and Diluvium.
