Spencer Prewett of Archspire Discusses New Music and the Tech Trek IV Tour

Archspire is one of the modern technical death metal bands to really make an impact. Their sound is aggressive but fast, not in the way that it’s soulless but fast in the way that their material is absolutely mindblowing. Every member of the band is talented — from their shockingly swift guitarists Dean Lamb and Tobi Morelli, to their dominating bassist Jared Smith, to their crushing drummer Spencer Prewett, and to their insane rap-influenced vocalist Oliver Rae Aleron. Very few bands today stand as influences, but Archspire is on its way to change the way we know tech death.

This isn’t the first time I saw Archspire but it was the best. They headlined Tech Trek IV and came to Orlando. The whole place was ecstatic; there was insane moshing, cheering, and everyone did that silly clam clap thing that Aleron made everyone do.

I discovered Archspire when The Lucid Collective came out. That album amazed me. But they conquered once again with 2017’s release Relentless Mutation. In my interview, Prewett teased new material. I hope you’re all ready for new stuff!

I spoke to Prewett while Archspire was on the Tech Trek IV tour. In the interview he discusses the tour, how they perform their material live, plans for the new album, and their writing process.

My name is Stephanie Jensen. I started my career as a music journalist five years ago. I had the idea for Infernal TV when I realized I desired more creative direction. I enjoyed working with video, so I decided to create a video-based website for metal bands.
