Infernal TV Show Review

2019 Best Live Shows

2019 was another killer year for live shows! There were many good tours and killer festivals. Both in my hometown and I saw great shows on my travels. But only a few can make this list. Here are the 8 best shows I saw in 2019.

8. Death Angel

The Brass Mug

12/7/2019

This was my first time seeing Death Angel and I was blown away. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t as familiar with their music. But I added them to my Apple Music playlist immediately after the show. They had amazing energy throughout the whole show. Exmortus was also killer!

7. Algorythm North America Tour (Beyond Creation, Fallujah, Arkaik, Equipoise)

Soundbar

10/11/2019

I’ve seen Beyond Creation a few times before this run but it was by far the best I had ever seen them live. They played their new album Algorythm in its entirety as well as old favorites such as “Omnipresent Perception.”

Fallujah was also killer. I love their new vocalist Ant! Arkaik was good. Equipoise blew me away. It was my first time seeing them and I hope I can see them live again soon.

6. Tech Trek North America Tour

The Haven

5/20/2019

Tech Trek took all of the best modern tech death bands and put them on one bill. The result? An incredible show! Archspire headlined the tour and they were amazing live. Inferi was on the tour and they were great as always. But Virvum completely blew me away. I only discovered them recently and I’ve been in love with Illuminance ever since. I got to watch a little bit of Wormhole’s set but I was interviewing the bands outside during most of their set. I’ll catch them next time!

5. First Fragment

Katakombs

11/16/2019

I never got to see First Fragment live but holy hell I finally did and they exceeded my expectations! Their guitarist, Nick Miller, was on tour with another band so they played as a four-piece. You would never have known their guitarist was gone because they sounded perfect. There were a lot of cool instrumental parts and they played my favorite songs such as “Gula.” I saw them at Katakombs in Montreal. I’m glad I went to the show because the venue is closing down.

4. Devastation On the Nation

The Orpheum

6/7/2019

This was by far the best Devastation On the Nation lineup. I’ve been wanting to see Dark Funeral live for awhile and never had the chance. They were by far the best of the night! The rest of the bands were also good but Hate especially blew me away.

3. Hell Over North America Tour

The Haven

4/10/2019

Aborted headlined this North America run with Cryptopsy. Aborted has been one of my favorite bands for years and I never got a chance to see them live. I finally did and I lost my shit! They played my favorite songs such as “Meticulous Invagination.” That was also probably one of the best times I’ve ever seen Cryptopsy live.

2. Ensiferum, Kalmah, and Abigail Williams

Corona Theater

11/17/2019

I’ve been wanting to see Kalmah live forever but they barely tour. I finally saw them in Montreal and they were amazing. Their energy was solid and they played my favorite songs such as “Hades.” Ensiferum and Abigail Williams were also great.

1. Quebec Deathfest

Club Soda, Les Foufounes Electriques, and Katakombs

9/13/2019 – 9/14/2019

What can I say? Cancer, Asphyx, Morbid Saint, Possessed, Triptykon! Some of the best bands at one festival, if you ask me! Every band was amazing and Cancer was by far my favorite. I also discovered some killer Montreal bands such as Necrotic Mutation and Ch’tielist. I loved QDF because it was all based in downtown Montreal and all of the venues were in walking distance of each other.

Here’s to another year of badass shows!
