Infernal TV Album Reviews

Krisiun – Mortem Solis Review: “This has to be one of my favorite Krisiun albums of all time.”

2022 keeps getting better! And I say that because Krisiun will not only release one of my favorite albums of the year but one of the best albums in their entire discography. I always appreciated Krisiun’s blistering and brutal sound, especially how they haven’t deviated from their core style. This album does sway slightly from their signature sound, with some catchier songs and more progressions. But don’t worry, this album is absolutely bludgeoning.

I definitely think Krisiun fans will love “Necronomical.” The song starts off with a punchy bass track that lays the groundwork for the entire song. The song hits hard with double bass and fast riffing. But the prominent bass makes this song extremely catchy.

The next song, “Tomb of the Nameless,” goes in a different direction. Instead of prominent bass, the riffing stands out here. The song eventually advances to a brief solo which ends the song. But with this track, don’t expect noodly guitaring going on here — this is Krisiun, so you can expect nothing short of ruthless riffing. And combining that with headbang-worthy drumming, this is one of the craziest songs on the album. I hope Krisiun plays this song live.

My favorite song on this album has to be “War Blood Hammer.” I love how every Krisiun song sounds like the soundtrack to a battle zone, and this song is no exception. The Krisiun clan is especially relentless in this song — the drums are beating furiously with racing riffs thrown in your face. You can’t get better than this classic hard-hitting Krisiun sound!

The next song, “As Angels Burn,” carries the momentum. I love how this song is also bludgeoning but has more progressions than what I’m used to hearing from Krisiun. However, they’re subtle. The riffs will change slightly, or the drums will hit harder rather than faster. Even with these small progressions, this song stays ferocious.

This has to be one of my favorite Krisiun albums of all time. They did change their sound slightly, but that fueled their music more than altered it. After listening to this album, I really can’t wait to see Krisiun live!
