Tom “Fountainhead” Geldschläger Discusses Changeling

Tom “Fountainhead” Geldschläger is a name that should be familiar to all tech death fans. While he’s most famous for his contributions to Obscura’s Akroasis album, Fountainhead has countless other projects, including his own solo material. It’s been a long time since fans have heard Fountainhead release music that’s both bludgeoning and intricate. But his newest band, Changeling, is pushing the boundaries of extreme metal.
With his fretless guitar, Fountainhead unleashes some of the most mind-blowing guitar work. His genius songwriting weaves in other genres with death metal, such as classical, jazz, flamenco, and more. Armed with a troupe of virtuosos (Morean on vocals, Arran McSporran on bass, and Mike Heller on drums) and countless guest musicians, Changeling’s self-title debut is by far the most dynamic release of the year.
I was able to speak to Fountainhead about the songwriting and musicianship behind this first Changeling album, in addition to choosing his lineup and guest musicians.
