Matt McGachy of Cryptopsy Discusses An Insatiable Violence

Social media has emerged as a torturous machine that rips us apart and defiles our existence. Yet, we engorge ourselves in this beast. That’s what Cryptopsy is proving with An Insatiable Violence. Vocalist Matt McGachy devised the album concept after having a vivid dream. The hopeless addiction to social media is something he relates to, after running the podcast Vox & Hops for many years.

While Cryptopsy is renowned for their intricate yet brutal sound, they have always had a versatile discography. But their newest album takes things to the next level. Drummer Flo Mounier has always been one of the most chaotic drummers in the genre, but he unleashes a new monster behind the kit with this album. McGachy experiments with new vocal pitches. Guitarist Chris Donaldson and bassist Oli Pinard push the boundaries of Cryptopsy’s sound, reinventing this legendary band.

I was able to speak to McGachy about An Insatiable Violence, their European tour with Decapitated, and their plans for the rest of the year.

My name is Stephanie Jensen. I started my career as a music journalist five years ago. I had the idea for Infernal TV when I realized I desired more creative direction. I enjoyed working with video, so I decided to create a video-based website for metal bands.
