Nasty Ronnie of Nasty Savage Discusses Tampa Deathfest
Very few bands sit on top of the extreme metal throne, but the one that all modern bands bow down to is Nasty Savage. Emerging in 1983, they unleashed a unique blend of thrash and speed metal that was more raw and aggressive than what other bands were releasing at the time. And hailing from Tampa, FL, they helped pave the way for what we now know as death metal, and bands like Obituary have credited Nasty Savage as being among their influences.
That’s why it was an honor to watch Nasty Savage headline Tampa Deathfest. Tampa Deathfest not only pays homage to the classics like Nasty Savage, but also showcases the newest talent the scene has to offer. Plus, bands come in from all over the country, and it truly is a fantastic metal gathering.
Nasty Savage released Jeopardy Room in 2024—their first album in 20 years. The band is still active today, regularly playing festivals throughout North America and Europe. And from the looks of it, it seems like they have another album under their belt.
I was able to speak to Nasty Savage’s frontman and only remaining original member, Nasty Ronnie. In the interview, we discuss Tampa Deathfest, the other festivals they have coming up, new music, and their legacy.
