Christian Muenzner Discusses Path of the Hero

It’s difficult to find guitar players who are breaking barriers today. In a world of YouTube covers and one minute shredding Instagram clips, few guitar players have the skill to compose well-written songs. But Christian Muenzner stands out from the masses.

He’s a virtuoso guitar player — anyone can tell this by listening to his work with Necrophagist, Obscura, and Alkaloid. But his true talent comes out on his solo material and even in his power metal band Eternity’s End. That’s because Christian is a genius composer just as much as he is a phenomenal guitar player.

On March 20, Christian released his third solo album, Path of the Hero. What a nice treat to have during this chaotic pandemic! I’ve been following Christian ever since his days in Necrophagist. I listened to his solo work when the albums came out but I recently re-discovered them and wondered if he was going to release another one. Sure enough, he teases Path of the Hero and I marked the release date on my calendar, buying the album when it was released.

Path of the Hero shows a lot of progression in Christian’s songwriting. While we get plenty of shreddy goodness, we hear plenty of melody and catchy parts we didn’t hear in previous albums. Songs such as “Demon Angel” and “Marchers of Valhalla” have pretty much been stuck in my head ever since I first heard the album. Some of his solos are also completely different than what we heard in previous material — like that crazy part in “Blades of the Brotherhood” where it’s a combination of addictive melodies and “how the hell are you playing that” parts.

And for those who are Eternity’s End fans — it seems like there’s a lot coming from that band in the near future!

I was able to speak to Christian about Path of the Hero, Eternity’s End, and everything else he has coming up in the future. Check out the interview!
