Mathias Lillmåns (“Vreth”) of Finntroll Discusses Vredesvävd and Their Touring Predictions

On September 18, the folk metal legends will finally release the Finntroll new album, Vredesvävd. This is their first album in seven years and fans have been anxiously awaiting this new album. Fortunately for fans, this album is awesome! I gave it a 9/10. Finntroll holds their signature sound but every song sounds different. They use a good mix of different styles — some songs are heavy and aggressive, others are beautiful and melodic, and other songs are perfect drinking songs!

There’s another major surprise: Katla appears on the album several times! While Katla still writes the Finntroll lyrics, he hasn’t done vocal duties in years. Fans heard Katla’s vocals during parts of the single “Ormfolk” but vocalist Vreth explains he appears even more in the album!

Finntroll has also been promoting tours, even a Finntroll tour in North America! With the pandemic, everything is so unpredictable. Who knows if we’ll go through a second massive wave and who knows when Finntroll will even be allowed in the U.S. and Canada. Until then, fans have plenty of time to listen to Vredesvävd and learn all of the chants before Finntroll starts touring!

I was able to speak to Mathias Lillmåns (“Vreth”) about Vredesvävd, Katla’s guest appearances, what he can say about touring, and how they find the influence to write new music.
